The Story of the Autograph
Randy Johnson designated / pinch hitter in the major leagues. He played during the 1980 and 1982 seasons with the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins respectively.
Johnson was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He went to Miami-Dade College and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the third round of the 1979 MLB Draft. He debuted the next season on July 5, 1980. He played in just twelve fames that first season with 25 plate appearances.
In 1981 he was back in the minors and the White Sox traded him to the Twins as a player to be named later in part of a deal that got them Jerry Koosman. He played in 89 games for the Twins in is only and last significant time in the majors hitting .248 with ten homers and 33 RBI.
He spent the rest of his career in the minors and was traded back to the White Sox in 1985 with another minor leaguer for Roy Smalley.
The Score on Randy Johnson – 6.0
So not that Randy Johnson, or the other Randy Johnson…. It’s funny that Randy’s card is a year after he played his last season but how was Topps to know that. He has a pretty standard signature but I don’t think that marker was doing him any favors. I did like that he had an extra post card to put in.
Thanks Mr. Johnson! I’m giving this return a 6.
