The Story of the Autograph
Pete Stanicek is a former major leaguer who played during the 1987 and 1988 seasons. He spent his career with the Baltimore Orioles.
Stanicek was born and raised in Illinois. He went on to attend Stanford University. He was first drafted by the Orioles in the 13th round of the 1984 MLB Draft but didn’t sign. A year later the Orioles came calling in the MLB Draft again, this time in the ninth round and he decided to sign.
After a season in A-ball with the Hagerstown Suns where he was selcted as the Carolina Leagues All Star second basemen, he made his major league debut the next year on September 1, 1987. In 30 games at the end of that season he hit .274. He started 1988 in Triple-A but was called up by the end of April. Baltimore’s infamous 21-game losing streak to start the year was ended on the day he was called up and batted leadoff.
He played all over the field for the Orioles but he also dealt with a lot of injuries. He was out of baseball after spending 1989 and 1990 in the minors.
The Score on Pete Stanicek – 6.0
Pete has a pretty standard signature right up until that last “k” and then he shows some flair. That is a big loop for a little letter. These came out pretty good overall but I think the best it that 1989 Fleer card. Did they make all the Orioles pose that way that year for the Fleer cards?
Thanks Mr. Stanicek! I’m giving this return a 6.
