The Story of the Autograph
Pete Schourek is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He worked mostly as a starter during his eleven year career. He played from 1991 to 2001 with the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox (twice) and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Schourek is a native of northern Virginia. He was drafted out of high school by the Mets in the second round of the 1987 MLB Draft. After four years in the minors he made his major league debut on April 9, 1991. He played his first three seasons in Queens and had the most success in his first season. He was on a downward trajector after that and was waived.
The Reds picked him up in the beginning of the 1994 season and his first year with the Reds was better. But it was in 1995, his second year of the Reds that Schourek did something he really wouldn’t get to doing again. That year he went 18-7 with a 3.22 ERA in 29 games, all starts. He would get Cy Young and MVP votes (losing the Cy to Greg Maddux) and help the Reds to the NLCS where they would eventually lose the Braves.
He could never find that success again and bounced around a bit to close out his career.
The Score on Pete Schourek – 7.0
This is a pretty much a double return from Pete. I had sent to a long time apart from each other and got them both back on the same day. I haven’t had any success from him since, but it makes me wonder if he just takes a long time (a really long time) to get to signing.
Thanks Mr. Schourek! I’m giving these returns a 7 overall.
