The Story of the Autograph

Paul Noce is a former middle infielder in the major leagues. He played in two season between 1987 and 1990 with the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.

Noce is a native of the Bay Area in California. He was drafted twice before signing with a team. The first time was while he was in high school in the 25th round of the 1978 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. Instead he chose to go to Washington State University and play for the Cougars. The Padres came back round to drafting him again in the 14th round of the 1981 MLB Draft and he chose to sign. But he wouldn’t appear for the Padres in the majors.

The Padres traded Noce to the Cubs in the beginning of the 1984 season. He spent a few more years in the minors with them before debuting on June 1, 1987. He would get into 70 games that season for his best chance at being on a major league roster. Unfortunately, it was almost the only shot he got.

The Cubs traded him tot he Expos for Bryan Oelkers in the middle of the 1988 season while he was back in the minors. He became a free agent after the season and went to the Mariners for the 1989 season, but never appeared for them in the majors. He would move again to the Reds as a free agent in 1990 and he would only make one appearance for them, the last of his career.

He would coach in Pittsburgh in the early 90’s and then coached in the Korean Baseball League in 1993. From there he had a long stint as the head coach of Hillsdale College in Michigan from 1994 to 2013. More recently he coach the Eastside Diamond Hoppers of the USPBL in 2016 and 2017.

The Score on Paul Noce – 6.5

Paul has a somewhat standard signature. It’s isn’t particularly large or small. His “N” almost looks like an “A” but you can see that its his name. The 1988 Score card is the best of these because it shows off the signature. The other two have him signing over the darker uniform.

Thanks Mr. Noce! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
