The Story of the Autograph
Mike Lalor, born on March 8, 1963, in Buffalo, New York, is a former professional ice hockey defenseman whose NHL career spanned over a decade. Though born in the U.S., Lalor was raised in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. He played junior hockey with the Brantford Alexanders in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before turning professional in 1983. Despite going undrafted, Lalor signed with the Montreal Canadiens and began his professional journey with their AHL affiliate, the Nova Scotia Voyageurs.
Lalor made his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens during the 1985–86 season. That same year, he contributed to the team’s success in winning the Stanley Cup. Over his NHL career, Lalor played for several teams, including the St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, Winnipeg Jets, San Jose Sharks, and Dallas Stars. He was known as a reliable defensive defenseman, amassing 687 NHL games with 17 goals, 88 assists, and 677 penalty minutes.
Internationally, Lalor represented the United States at the 1996 Men’s World Ice Hockey Championships. After retiring from professional hockey in 1997, he transitioned into the fitness industry and currently owns Teammates Fitness Inc. in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Mike Lalor’s career is a testament to perseverance and adaptability, showcasing how undrafted players can make significant contributions at the highest levels of professional hockey.

Mike has a little zig zaggy style signature. That doesn’t always work very well on hockey cards with busy images. But it cuts through pretty well on the Blue cards. I think my favorite is the 1990 Upper Deck from this bunch.
