The Story of the Autograph
Michael Cuddyer played in major league baseball from 2001 through 2015. For the most part he played the outfield and he is best known as a member of the Minnesota Twins where he played until 2011 (11 seasons). At the end of his career he played for the Colorado Rockies and New York Mets before retiring.
Cuddyer is from the Tidewater area of Virginia. Born in Norfolk and raised in Chesapeake, he from the same are as other good players like David Wright and the Upton brothers. He was a great athlete and excelled in multiple sports, but he was named Virginia’s Gatorade National baseball Player of the Year in 1997. The Twins made him the 9th overall pick that year but he didn’t sign with them until August as he waited out a higher bonus since he was committed to playing baseball for Florida State.
He was very good with the Twins. He had several good years, but I think his 2006 season was particularly good. He played in 150 games and it .284 (above is .277 career average) and hit 24 homers, 41 doubles and 109 RBI. He made his first All-Star appearance in his last year with the Twins in 2011.
From there he moved on to Colorado on a three-year deal. His 2013 season was great as a Rockie. He hit .331 to lead the league and win the batting title. Plus he hit 30 homers and drove in 84. Before retiring he moved on to the Mets and helped them get to the 2015 World Series.
If you like good photography you should follow him on Instagram. He’s got a good eye.
The Score on Michael Cuddyer – 7.0
Michael has always has a kind of “proper” signature. He writes really neatly and signs as if he is signing a document. I’ve always seen him use thin Sharpies. Sometimes that doesn’t allow for things to come out well but it worked on this card. Plus if you read this blog a bunch you know how I think things generally come out well on 2016 Topps cards.
Thanks Mr. Cuddyer! I’m giving this one a 7.
