The Story of the Autograph

Mark Lewis is a former infielder in the major leagues. He played from 1991 to 2001 with the Cleveland Indians (twice), Cincinnati Reds (twice), Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, and Baltimore Orioles.

Lewis was born and raised in Hamilton, Ohio. The Indians drafted him out of high school with the second overall pick in the first round of the 1988 MLB Draft. He spent the first three seasons in the minors and made his major league debut on April 26, 1991. He played in half a season that first year and in 84 games hit .264 with no homers and 30 RBI. He would follow up by playing in 122 games in 1992, but with similar stats, adding five homers. His playing time would decrease in the next two years as he spent more time in the minors.

In 1995 he was traded to the Reds for Tim Costo. This is where he would probably have the best moment of his career. In Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers he hit the first pinch his grand slam in postseason history. Definitely a bit out of character for a guy that had only 10 homers in his career to that point. The Reds would trade him to the Tigers after the season to complete a trade that sent CJ Nitkowski to Tigers and David Wells back to the Reds.

He would bounce around for the remainder of his career, mostly as a free agent. He attempted a comeback in 2007 but it lasted just one game with the Long Island Ducks.

The Score on Mark Lewis – 7.0

Mark has a nice signature. I especially like the style of both of his capital letters “M” and “L”. The “L” almost looks like it goes right into the “s” in his last name. It doesn’t but sometimes it appears that way. I think the blue marker is great on these cards too.

Thanks Mr. Lewis! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
