The Story of the Autograph

Mallex Smith is an outfield who currently played for the Seattle Mariners. He’s been in the league since 2016 and has also played for the Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays.

Smith was born in Tallahassee, FL and also played football in high school as a safety. He was drafted first by the Brewers in 2011 out of high school but chose not to sign with them and instead went to Santa Fe College. He only played one season and was drafted by the Padres in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

After a few years in the minors he was traded to the Braves with others in exchange for Justin Upton and another player. A couple more years in the Braves system and then he was brought up to the majors in April of 2016 and debuted against the Nationals. He singled against Max Scherzer in his first game so that’s a pretty good start. His first homer came off of Matt Harvey a little bit later.

The Braves traded smith to the Mariners in 2017 and then the same day the Mariners sent him off to Tampa Bay. After a couple years in Tampa, he’s now back with the Mariners after the Rays traded him back there.

While this is a Spring Training success, it’s actually from last year. At the time Mallex was in Tampa and I got it back before this year’s Spring Training started. I’m just working with a bit of a backlog and I only try to post one return a day.

It’s too bad that the 2016 card got so messed up. Mallex has a little bit of a messy signature, but I kind of like the style he has wit putting the zero in the middle of his signature.

Thanks Mr. Smith! I’m giving this on a 4.
