Over 13 seasons in the league, Clifton quietly put together a career that earned him respect from teammates, coaches, and fans alike. Known for his tackling ability and durability, Clifton became a cornerstone of the Jets’ defense during the 1980s and 1990s.
Ronald Kyle Clifton was born on August 23, 1962, in Olney, Texas. Growing up in a small Texas town, Clifton developed a love for football early on and excelled as a high school athlete. His talent earned him a scholarship to Texas Christian University (TCU), where he played as a linebacker for the Horned Frogs. At TCU, Clifton demonstrated exceptional tackling ability and football intelligence, quickly establishing himself as one of the team’s defensive leaders. His standout college career caught the attention of NFL scouts, despite TCU not being a powerhouse program at the time.
Clifton was selected by the New York Jets in the 3rd round of the 1984 NFL Draft (pick 64). Although he didn’t enter the league with much fanfare, Clifton’s work ethic and versatility allowed him to make an immediate impact on the Jets’ defense. Despite the team’s struggles, Clifton’s individual performance never wavered. His commitment to the game and his team earned him the admiration of fans, who appreciated his blue-collar approach to football.
After retiring in 1996, Clifton stepped away from the spotlight, choosing to focus on his family and personal life. He has remained involved in charitable work and has occasionally participated in Jets alumni events, staying connected to the team that defined his professional career. The Score on Kyle Clifton – 7.0
Kyle is one of the most reliable signers within the football TTM community. I don’t think he ever really has done a bad job for me, and I have quite a lot of returns from him. The marker on this one is great. Its really sharp and it cuts through all of the images on these. I especially like the 1992 GameDay card.
Thanks Mr. Clifton! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
This is my fifth success return from him. To see the other successes, check out these posts:
