The Story of the Autograph
Kiko Garcia played shortstop in the majors for ten years from 1976 through 1984. Over that time he played with the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies. While he primarily played shortstop, he also played 120 games at second base and another 51 at third.
Garcia is a Mexican American and was born and raised in California. He was drafted by the Orioles in 1971 in the third round of the draft. He made his major league debut on September 11, 1976 after several years in the minors. He never really appeared in more than half the games in a season except for 1979 and 1980 with the Orioles. He never hit for a great average which shows in his lifetime average of .239 and he only hit 12 homers and had 112 RBI for his whole career. His best season was probably 1979 when he appeared in 126 games, hit .247 and had five homers, nine triples, and 24 RBI.
He reached the playoffs while with Baltimore in ’79 and Houston in ’81. Baltimore would end up losing in the World Series.
The Score on Kiko Garcia – 6.5
While Kiko might not have much of an autograph, I king of like it. I think I just dig seeing “Kiko” written out. I also like how his “G” comes out looking like a six. The Phillies cards really working the best with the autograph, but my favorite is the ’81 Topps card. I just love that early 80’s hair and the eye black. I think he needs to be on the Bad News Bears.
Thanks Mr. Garcia! I’m giving this one a 6.5.
