The Story of the Autograph
Kevin Elster is a former major league shortstop. He played from 1986 to 2000 for the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers (twice), Pittsburgh Pirates, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Elster was born and raised in California. He went to Golden West College and was drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 1984 MLB Draft. He would make his major league debut two seasons later towards the end of the 1986 World Series Championship season for the Mets. He stuck on into the postseason and appeared a few times.
But it would be in 1988 when Elster really got a shot and played 149 games in his first significant time. He had a great year in 1989 with 19 homers, 55 RBI and a .231 average. Between July 19, 1988 and May 9, 1989 he would go a major league record 88 consecutive regular season games without an error. That broke an Major League record, but at this time Elster still holds the National League record.
Elster had a few injuries through his last few years with the Mets and his last season would end quickly due to a shoulder injury that would require surgery. He went through a period of being sign to minor league deals and cut and then finally made hit back to the bigs.
He really never got another good chance until a break out season with the Rangers in 1996. He had a career year with 24 homers, 99 RBI and a .252 average, all career highs. More injuries came and more bouncing around until he called it quits until Davey Johnson got him to come out of retirement for a season with the Dodgers in 2000.

I hadn’t tried Kevin in a while. These came out pretty well. I’m not a fan of the sideways signing, but you get what you get and you don’t get upset. Elster charges a nominal fee. I thought it was $2 but he didn’t send all my cards back. Not sure if that was a mistake or if he charges a little more these days.
