The Story of the Autograph
Ken Hill is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. His fourteen year career spanned from 1988 to 2001. During that time he played for the St. Louis Cardinals (twice), Montreal Expos, Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Anaheim Angels, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Hill was born and raised in Massachusetts. He was signed by the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 1985, but he never made it to the majors with them. A year after signing with the Tigers they traded him and Mike Laga to the St. Louis Cardinals for Mike Heath. He made his major league debut a couple years later on September 3, 1988.
He didn’t find that much success in his time with St. Louis. In 1989 he led the NL in losses when he put up a 7-15 record. His last season in St. Louis was his only with a winning record at 11-10. But after being traded to the Expos for Andres Galarraga he found some success. He had a winning record in each season including two 16-win seasons, one of those leading the NL in wins. That year, 1994, he mad his one and only All-Star team.
After Montreal Hill jumped around a lot. He was a member of the Indians team that went to the postseason in 1995 and then had a career year with Texas in 1996. He put up another 16-win season going 16-10 with a 3.63 ERA, seven complete games and three shutouts. Unfortunately after that he really only had one more good season in Anaheim.
The Score on Ken Hill – 7.5
Ken charges a small fee but he seems to do a really good job for that. His signature is a nice size and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do a bad job on a card. The one thing I find really interesting about his signature is that the way he does his “K” it almost looks like he is drawing a stick figure person.
Thanks Mr. Hill! I’m giving this return a 7.5 overall.
