The Story of the Autograph

Julio Zuleta is a former first baseman and outfielder in the major leagues. He played in two seasons for the Chicago Cubs, 2000 and 2001. He also played in Japan from 2003 to 2008 with the Fukuoka Daiei/SoftBank Hawks and Chiba Lotte Marines.

Zuleta is a native of Panama. The Cubs signed him as a free agent in 1992. He spent several years in the majors before making his major league debut on April 6, 2000. He wouldn’t play all that much in the majors. In his first season he played in just 30 games and then 49 in his second season. His overall numbers for his time in the majors is 79 games, a .247 average, nine homers, and 36 RBI.

He was much more successful in Japan. In 2005 he hit 43 homers and had a .319 ERA and holds the record for home runs by a foreign born player. He was part of the league’s Best Nine in that season at first base but earned two more All-Star nods.

After his playing days he opened indoor batting cages in Florida but he has since sold the business.

The Score on Julio Zuleta – 6.5

Julio doesn’t use a lot of space, but he sure puts a ton of information on your card. He personalizes, adds his number and writes “CUBS” on the card. He used a great marker that really pops off the card. I think I like the Fleer cards the best, especially that landscape card.

Thanks Mr. Zuleta! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
