The Story of the Autograph
Joe Musgrove is a pitcher who is currently with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was previously a member of the Astros and was a member of their World Series Championship team last year. He moved to the Pirates this winter in the trade that sent Gerrit Cole to the Astros.
Joe was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of high school in California. He signed with the Blue Jays and went right into the Gulf Coast League. In 2012 he started with the Bluefield Blue Jays. Then in July of 2012 he was part of a large trade that sent six players to the Astros for three players including J.A. Happ. He then moved through the Astros system from there.
Musgrove made his major league debut on August 2, 2016. As fate would have it, that was a game against the Blue Jays. He struck out eight over 4.1 innings and only allowed one hit. He would end up with a 4-4 record for the year and started 10 of the 11 games that he appeard in. His ERA in 2016 was 4.06.
In 2017 he started 15 of the 38 games he appeared in and went 7-8 with a 4.77 ERA. In his 109.1 innings pitched he almost made it to 100 strikeouts but topped out at 98. He appeared in the postseason on the run to winning a World Series by appearing in seven games including four World Series games. He allowed three hits and three runs in four innings in the Series and was the winning pitcher in Game 5.
The Score on Joe Musgrove – 7.5
I like Joe’s signature a lot. It’s got that repeat feel to it with the way he matches the “g” wit the way he does his “J”. It’s a good sized autograph too. The 2017 is the better of the two only because there’s a lot more white/light space to show off the signature. That said, I really like how both of them came out. He used a great marker and it really sticks out well.
Thanks Mr. Musgrove! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
