The Story of the Autograph

Joe Borowski is a former right-handed relief pitcher. He played from 1995 to 2008 with the Orioles, Braves, Yankees, Cubs, Devil Rays, Marlins and Indians. His most significant time was spent in Chicago but one of his best years was in Cleveland.

Borowski was born and raised in New Jersey and played both baseball and football in high school. He was a two-time All-State star in both sports and then went to Rutgers. The White Sox made him a 32nd round pick in 1989 the 1989 MLB Draft.

From 1995 through 2002 he never appeared in more than 22 games in a season. Then in 2002 with Chicago he appeared in 73 games and 68 the year after that. The first year he worked mostly in regular relief and in 2003 he worked as a closer and saved 33 games with a 2.63 ERA. His next job as a closer was in 2006 with the Marlins when he closed 36 games.

What might be his biggest accomplishment though came in 2007 in his first year with the Indians. That year Borowski saved a league leading 45 games. He didn’t start off well that year and ended with a 5.07 ERA. That was one of the worst seasons for a closer with more than 40 saves. After another awful start in 2008 the Indians put him on the DL and then later released him.

The Score on Joe Borowski – 5.0

From what I’ve seen Joe is a pretty reliable signer. Just be ready for a signature that almost looks like a line at times. It looks like Joe also tends to put it pretty low on the card too, sometimes even below his name. I do like that I got cards that are around his best year from a saves perspective.

Thanks, Mr. Borowski! I’m giving this one a 5.
