The Story of the Autograph
Jerry Turner played in the outfield for the San Diego Padres (in two stints), Chicago White Sox, and Detroit Tigers. His career started in 1974 and he played through the 1983 season. The majority of his time in the majors was with the Padres from 1974-81 and then also in 1983.
Turner was born in Arkansas but grew up in Los Angeles. The Padres selected him with their tenth pick in the 1972 draft. Two year later after he had been tearing it up in the minors, he made his debut in the show on September 2, 1974. He was back in the minors the next season and tore it up again and was back in the bigs the next year. In 1976 he was up for good and played as the Padres regular left fielder.
Jerry’s best overall season might have been 1978. He didn’t hit all his career highs but he had good numbers (for him in all categories). He played 106 games that year and hit .280. He added eight home runs, 37 RBI, and 6 stolen bases for that year. His career highs in all of those categories were .288, 10 homers, 61 RBI.
The Score on Jerry Turner – 7.5
Jerry has a pretty sweet looking signature. He’s definitely got some style to his “J” and “T” with a classic cursive style. The ’81 Topps card didn’t come out the best but it’s my favorite of the three cards, but that might be because of the picture and that ‘fro too. The ’81 Fleer card might be the best signature but unfortunately there’s that dark dugout in the background of the picture.
Thanks Mr. Turner! I’m giving this a 7.5.
