The Story of the Autograph
Jeff Fassero is a former left-handed pitcher who worked as both a starter and a reliever. He played from 1991 to 2006 with the Montreal Expos, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Francisco Giants.
Fassero was born and raised in Illinois. He went to the University of Mississippi to play baseball and was drafted by the Cardinals in the 22nd round of the 1984 MLB Draft. He actually moved around a lot before he made it to the majors, getting redrafted by the White Sox in the 1989 minor league draft, then signed by the Indians and ultimately again by the Expos. He made his major league debut on May 4, 1991 as a 28 year old rookie.
He was part of the starting rotation by 1993 and put up a 12-5 record that season with a 2.29 ERA in 56 games with 15 starts. His best year in Montreal was in 1996 when he went 15-11 with a 3.30 ERA before being traded when the Expos started to cut salary. He went to the Mariners and had two pretty good seasons at 16-9 in 1997 and 13-12 in 1998.
In 2001 with the Cubs he started to move to the bullpen. He would occasionally make starts in the many stops left in his career but mostly he would work as a lefty reliever. He jumped to a few different teams and then retired, but went to the Mexican League to play before officially retiring. Later on he worked as a coach in the minors.
The Score on Jeff Fassero – 7.0
Jeff definitely has what looks like a lefty signature. You can see the lean. His first name really makes it start to look like a zig-zag style signature but then it gets a little lesser of that style. The 1993 Upper Deck is my favorite not only because the blue marker looks great but that is one of my favorite designs to get signed.
Thanks Mr. Fassero! I’m giving this return a 7.
