The Story of the Autograph

Jed Lowrie is an infielder currently with the New York Mets. In his eleven year career he’s spent time with four previous teams: Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros (twice), and the Oakland Athletics (twice). While he’s played more games at shortstop during his career, these days he’s probably more known to play second base as well as third.

Lowrie was born and raised in Salem, OR. He attended Standford and earned Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year honors in 2004 while playing for the Cardinal baseball team. He was also a first team All-American that year and the following year. The Red Sox drafted him in the in the first round of the MLB Draft in 2005.

After a few years in the minors, Lowrie was called up on April 10, 2008 and debuted a few days after that. He drove in three runs in a win against Cleveland to start his career. He never appeared in much more than half a season games while in Boston, or Houston for that matter. He was traded from Boston to Houston who eventually traded him to Oakland two different times.

The A’s have been the team to let Jed have the most action as he’s never played in less than 136 games with them (and no more than 97 in a season with any other team). For that reason he’s had some of his best years in Oakland with 2018 being probably his career best. Last year in 157 games he hit .267 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI and made is first All-Star appearance.

This year he’s moved on to the Mets and based on who else is on the team, it might be a challenge to play a lot of games with the other infielders they have. On top of that, Lowrie has an injury he’s been dealing with this spring.

Jed as a has a pretty cool autograph. I like it’s size and it looks really good on this card. I think the one thing that it looks like though is that the start of the signature either didn’t have a good marker or it was just not enough pressure on the card.

Thank Mr. Lowrie! I’m giving this one a 7.
