The Story of the Autograph
Jaime Cocanower may not be a household name, but during his four-season stint in Major League Baseball (MLB), he carved out a solid career as a reliable starting pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. Jaime Lee Cocanower was born on February 14, 1957, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Raised in a baseball-loving environment, Cocanower developed a passion for the game early in life. His family moved to the United States, and Cocanower eventually attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he honed his pitching skills. At Baylor, Cocanower quickly became a standout player, earning All-Southwest Conference honors and helped them to the 1977 and 1978 College World Series. The Milwaukee Brewers signed him as an amateur free agent in 1978
After spending several years in the minors refining his craft, Cocanower made his MLB debut with the Brewers on September 7, 1983. His rookie season showed promise, as he posted a 4.02 ERA in 33 appearances with 27 starts. Cocanower’s ability to keep hitters off-balance and pitch deep into games made him a valuable member of the Brewers’ rotation.
The 1984 season proved to be Cocanower’s best. He made 27 starts, pitched 174.2 innings, and posted a 4.02 ERA while striking out 65 batters. Although not a power pitcher, Cocanower relied on his control and ability to induce ground balls to find success. Over the next two seasons, Cocanower continued to contribute as a reliable pitcher for the Brewers. However, injuries and a decline in effectiveness led to the end of his MLB career after the 1986 season. In total, Cocanower pitched in 79 games, compiling a 16-25 record with a 3.99 ERA.
Following his retirement from professional baseball, Cocanower transitioned into private life. He returned to Texas, where he became involved in youth baseball and dedicated his time to mentoring aspiring pitchers. Cocanower’s love for the game never waned, and he remained connected to the sport through coaching and community involvement.

This is a great return from Jaime. While he has a pretty long name, he keeps his signature pretty compact. The blue marker really looks great on these with the Brewer’s uniform. What I find really interesting on these is how much space he took up on the cards with where he signed. The biggest signature, and maybe my favorite of this bunch, is the 1987 Topps card.
