The Story of the Autograph
Jack Brohamer played second base in the major leagues from 1972 through 1980. He spent time with the Cleveland Indians (twice), Chicago White Sox, and the Boston Red Sox.
Brohamer was drafted by the Indians in the 1967 draft. He was drafted in the 34th round. I don’t know how anyone can draft that many rounds as I hardly make it that far in my fantasy baseball league. It took him a few years to get to the majors and he got his first hit in his first at-bat on April 18, 1972. He was always in the Indians lineup until they traded him in 1975 to the White Sox.
With the white sox he played both second and third base. He hit for the cycle in 1977 and because the only player in MLB history to hit a home run while wearing shorts in 1976. If you remember those old gimmick uniforms the White Sox had in the seventies, those were the shorts. He went to the Red Sox as a free agent starting in the 1978 season. Then the Indians purchased his contract in 1980 and he finished out his career with the team that drafted him.
The Score on Jack Brohamer – 6.0
Jack has a nice autograph. I think two of these cards don’t really show it well though. The 1980 Topps card has a facsimile autograph already and those really have to be done a certain way to make it work, if the card will let it. The 1981 Fleer is just really dark on his sleeve and hides the autograph. But that 1978 Topps card is awesome.
Thanks Mr. Brohamer! I’m giving all these a 6 together.
