The Story of the Autograph
Gary Gray played in the majors from 1977 through 1982. He spent time with the Rangers, Indians an Mariners during his career. He played as a left fielder, a first baseman and a designated hitter.
Gray went to college at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and was drafted by the Rangers in the 18th round of the 1974 Draft. After a few years in the minor he was playing pretty well. He hit over .300 with almost 20 homers and around 100 RBI in over 120 games for two years in their system. He made his debut with the Rangers on June 23, 1977. In the first four years of his career in the major though he would go back and forth between the Rangers and their minor leagues. He only played one, 17, and 16 games from 1977 trough 1979. After moving to the Indians in 1980 he only played 28 games.
The Mariners picked him up in 1981 and he had his best season. He split time with Bruce Bochte at first and hit .245 wit 13 homers and 31 RBI in 69 games. In ’82 he appeared in 80 games and hit .257 with 7 RBI and 29 RBI. The next year his contract was sold to the Angels but he never appeared for them in the majors. He played in the Mexican League from 1983 to 1987 and then retired from baseball.
The Score on Gary Gray – 6.0
Gary has an interesting autograph, partly because he has a double consonant name and partly because that consonant it a “G”. I love those “Gs” and the way he does his “ys”. I think the only problem wit a couple of these cards is just the dark picture.
Thanks Mr. Gray! I’m giving these a 6.
