The Story of the Autograph

Franklin Stubbs played first base and outfield in the majors from 1984 through 1995. He played for the Dodgers, Astros, Brewers, and Tigers. These days he coaches in the minor leagues.

Stubbs went to Virginia Tech and was drafted in 1982 by the Dodgers. After two years in the minors he made his major league debut on April 28, 1984 for the Dodgers against the Padres. His best hitting year with the Dodgers was in ’86 when in 132 games he hit .226 and belted 23 homers with 58 runs batted in. His best fielding year was 1987 when he had 885 chances with only five errors for a .994 fielding percentage to lead the league. Then to keep the “best year with the Dodgers” theme going, his best team year with them was 1988 when he was part of their World Series championship squad.

He was traded to the Astros to start out 1990 and he had the best numbers of his career. In 146 games (career high) he hit .261 with 23 homers to tie a career high and 71 RBI (another career high). After a year with Houston he had stops in Milwaukee and Detroit.

These days he coaches with the Visalia Rawhide.

Franklin has always had a crazy signature. Damn if I can make any sense out of it. It just looks like it’s a bunch of letters on top of each other kind of. It’s always been that way though. I’ll give him credit for filling up those cards though.

Thanks Mr. Stubbs! I’m giving these a 5.
