The Story of the Autograph
Dennis Lamp is a former pitcher in the major leagues. He pitched from 1977 to 1992 and played for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Born and raised in California, Lamp was drafted by the Cubs in 1971 after he graduated high school in the third round of that year’s MLB Draft. He made his major league debut on August 21, 1977. In his first years with the Cubs he was mostly used as a starting pitcher. After being traded across town to the White Sox he started to take more of a relief role, but after 1982 he was primarily a relief pitcher.
He was part of a few teams that went as far as the ALCS. In 1983 Lamp went 7-7 with a 3.71 ERA and 15 saves to help the White Sox win their division. He then moved on to the Blue Jays and in 1985 he went 11-0 in 52 games with one start and a 3.32 ERA to help the Blue Jays to the ALCS. He received some MVP votes that year as well. Lastly, he helped the Red Sox reach the ALCS in 1990.
Overall Lamp was 96-96 with 35 save and a 3.93 career ERA during his 16 years in the majors.
The Score on Dennis Lamp – 6.0
Dennis has a super fancy signature. I think the light marker he used on these just accentuates the fancy feel of that. I think it came out best on the ’85 Topps and the ’89 Fleer. I’m actually really glad I got the ’85 Topps signed because that was one of his best years in his career.
Thanks Mr. Lamp! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
