The Story of the Autograph
Dave Geisel is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1978 to 1985 with the Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Seattle Mariners.
Geisel was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in New York. He was drafted out of high school by the Cubs in the fifth round of the 1973 MLB Draft. He spent five years in the minor leagues before he made his major league debut on June 13, 1978. He played in 36 games over three seasons between 1978 and 1981 before the Cubs traded him to the Blue Jays as the player to be named later in a deal for Paul Mirabella.
He got his best opportunity in the majors with Toronto in ’82 and ’83. In ’83 he more than doubled his career high in appearances to 47. But that was also the year that his ERA started growing a bit. He would eventually move to the Mariners as a rule 5 draft pick and play his final two seasons in Seattle with his last major league game occurring on May 18, 1985.
The Score on Dave Geisel – 5.0
Dave has a signature on the smallish side. That probably helps when he signed the 1980 Future Stars card. But overall the thin marker just kind of gets hidden on these with the blue jerseys. I normally like when the blue marker goes with the team colors but it really swallows up the signature on these.
Thanks Mr. Geisel! I’m giving this return a 5.
