The Story of the Autograph
Daniel Hudson is a current relief pitcher in the major leagues. He started his major league career in 2009 and since then has played with the Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Washington Nationals.
Hudson was born and raised in Virginia. He went to high school in Virginia Beach where he won a state championship and stayed in the area to attend Old Dominion University. He finished his college career with 295 strikeouts which was second only to Justin Verlander. The White Sox drafted him in the fifth round in 2008 and he made his major league debut for them just a year later on September 4, 2009.
Prior to 2013 he was strictly a starting pitcher. His most significant season as a starter was in 2011 with the Diamondbacks when he went 16-12 with a 3.49 ERA in 33 starts. That helped Arizona earn an NL West title. Unfortunately just a year later he was injured and had to have Tommy John surgery. While rehabing he reinjured himself and had to have a second surgery.
He wouldn’t appear in the majors again until 2014, missing an entire year. When he came back he went to the bullpen to work as a reliever. He stayed with Arizona until 2016 and from there he started bouncing around, a lot like other relievers do.
In 2019 he was picked up by the Nationals in a trade and became a key piece of their run to winning the 2019 World Series. He ended the regular season with an overall 9-3 record with eight saves and a 2.47 ERA. But most important of all he closed Game 7 by striking out two of the three Astros he faced.
The Score on Daniel Hudson – 6.5
I got this return from Daniel via Spring Training in 2020. Looking back, it surprises me that I got anything from those attempts. That was probably the last hardcore Spring Training I will probably do. These look really great and he has a really strong signature. 2011 Topps cards from these sets are some of my favorite to get signed. I also like him in a DBacks uniform because I’ve been trying to add more from certain teams like that.
Thanks Mr. Hudson! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
