The Story of the Autograph
Dan Pasqua is a former outfielder in the major leagues. His ten year career spanned from 1985 through 1994 and he played for the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
Pasqua was born in New York and raised in New Jersey. He went to William Paterson University where he was an All-American and NJAC Player of the Year in 1982. The Yankees then drafted him in the third round of the 1982 MLB Draft. He broke into the majors three years later on May 30, 1985 in a game against the California Angels. While his first at bat resulted in a double play, his second was just the opposite – a homer! He had some great moments early in his career and struggled at others. Eventually the Yankees traded him along with Steve Rosenberg and Mark Salas to the Chicago White Sox for Richard Dotson and Scott Nielsen.
In Chicago he battled other players for playing time and then dealt with injuries. There would be a place for him, and then he would need to find another place, like when Frank Thomas came up to play first. But his best season could be 1991 in Chicago when he made it into a career high 134 games, hit 18 homers and 66 RBI (a career high) and hit .259.
Unfortunately he didn’t play well in the 1993 ALCS against the Torono Blue Jays. In that series he played in the first two games of the series and Bo Jackson did not, leading Jackson to comment that the team was playing “for two days one man short.” But Jackson didn’t fare much better in that series either. In 1994 he had knee surgery after only a few games and never returned to the bigs.
The Score on Dan Pasqua – 7.0
Dan has a big and bubbly signature. I love how the “D” and the “P” go so well together in the style that he signs in. My favorite card of these is the ’88 Score, but my favorite with ink on it is the ’87 Donruss. The awkward part of the 1988 cards is that he was already with the White Sox by the time those cards came out.
Thanks Mr. Pasqua! I’m giving this return a 7.
