The Story of the Autograph
Craig Minetto is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. His short career spanned from 1978 to 1981 and he spent all of his major league time with the Oakland Athletics.
Minetta is a native of Stockton, California. He was originally drafted in 1972 by the Dodgers in the 35th round of the MLB draft but chose not to sign. Instead he went on to San Joaquin Delta College and the next year he was drafted again by the Dodgers in the third round of the draft and he still didn’t sign. Then in 1974 the Montreal Expos signed him as an amateur free agent. They would release him in September of that same year.
He went to Italy where he played for Fortitudo Baseball Bologna and would return to the states after one season. A couple years later, in 1977, he signed with the A’s. He would make his major league debut with them on July 4, 1978. In four seasons he would appear in 55 games, fifteen of them starts. He had a 1-7 record and a 5.40 ERA for his career.
The A’s traded him to the Orioles in 1982 and the Orioles would trade him to the Astros a year later, but he would never play in the majors again.
The Score on Craig Minetto – 6.0
1981 Topps cards are one of my favorite sets, I think because it was when I really remember starting collecting. So it means a lot when I get that set signed specifically. Craig might not be a super special player, and then A’s aren’t my favorite team, but the 1981 set makes it special to me.
Thanks Mr. Minetto! I’m giving this return a 6.
