The Story of the Autograph

Craig Hodges is a former guard in the NBA. He played from 1984 to 1992 with the San Diego Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, and Chicago Bulls. He also played in the CBA, Italy, Turky and Sweden until 1998.

Hodges is a native of Illinois. He went to college at Long Beach State and was drafted in the second round of the 1982 NBA Draft by the Clippers, who were located in San Diego at the time. He played for two years with the Clippers until he was traded to the Bucks with Terry Cummings and Ricky Pierce for Junior Bridgeman, Harvey Catchings and Marques Johnson. He was moved to Phoenix four years later in the middle of the season for a draft pick and then was traded to the Bulls as season later.

His best seasons were with Milwaukee from 1984 through 1988. In those seasons he average at least 9.5 points per game, but had three full seasons averaging over 10 points per game. But he is probably most famous for his participation in the three point contest. He appeared in the first eight contest and won three consecutive years in 1990, 1991, and 1992. He had a chance to win two other times but was beat by Larry Bird (1986) and Dale Ellis (1989).

After playing he went into coaching at Chicago State University. He also worked with the Los Angeles Lakers and in the Knicks organization. These days he coaches high school. He was very politically active and expressed his views, including when he went to the White House as part of the Bulls championship teams.

I know Craig played for other teams, but I think these are great because I always think of him as a Bull. I also especially love that he has a Three Point Contest trophy on that Upper Deck card. These came out great and I think the best one overall is the 1990 Fleer card.

Thanks Mr. Hodges! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
