The Story of the Autograph
Carl Zander is a former linebacker in the NFL. He played from 1985 though 1991 and spent his entire career with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Zander was born and raised in New Jersey. He did just about everything for his team in high school and then went on to play at Tennessee. As a Volunteer he played with some other amazing players ahead of him and in his draft class. While he didn’t start immediately with Mike Cofer in front of him, he had his breakout season in 1983. He had another amazing season in his senior year.
The Bengals drafted Zander in the second round of the 1985 NFL Draft. He was one of three Tennessee linebackers taken in that draft. He would eventually become the signal caller of the defense and started for the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII against the 49ers. His best season might have been 1986 when he had 3.5 sacks, an interception (one of the three in his career) and a fumble recovery.
The Score on Carl Zander – 6.5
Carl has a great signature and two of these cards show it off pretty well. It’s not too often you get a “Z” which is usually pretty interesting in a signature. I think my favorite of the bunch is the 1991 Fleer. Unfortunately, that 1991 Pro Set has a Raiders black uniform in it. But interestingly enough, so does the 1991 Fleer.
Thanks Mr. Zander! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
