The Story of the Autograph
Bryan Oelkers is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He worked as both a starter and reliever in two seasons with the Minnesota Twins in 1983 and Cleveland Indians in 1986.
Oelkers is a native of Spain. He grew up in Missouri and went to college at Wichita State. He was first drafted in 1979 by the Chicago Cubs but didn’t sign. Three years later the Twins drafted him in the first round of the 1982 MLB Draft with the fourth pick overall. This was the spot ahead of Dwight Gooden. He would make his major league debut for them a year later on April 9, 1983.
He played in ten games that first season, starting eight of those game. Unfortunately he went 0-5 with an 8.65 ERA in that first season. The Twins traded him afer two seasons back in the minors in 1986 with Ken Schrom and in return picked up Ramon Romero and Roy Smith. He played in 35 games that season with the Indians with four of those appearances being starts. It didn’t go well again as he went 3-3 with a 4.70 ERA. Those would be the last appearance for him in the MLB even though he tried to make it with the Expos after that.
The Score on Bryan Oelkers – 7.5
This is another strong marker used, we’ve seen a few good ones in this week’s posts. This card give Bryan a good opportunity to show off his signature as the image is pretty bright and has a pretty good place for him to sign.
Thanks Mr. Oelkers! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
