The Story of the Autograph

Bob Jones is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1974 to 1986 with the Texas Rangers (twice) and California Angels.

Jones is a native of Maryland. He was drafted by the Washington Senators in 1967. He was with the Senators through their move to Texas. During his time in the minors he also served in the US Army and is a combat veteran of the Vietname War. He sustained permanent hearing loss in his right ear because of his time in the military and earned a Bronze Start Medal in 1971.

He made his major league debut for the Rangers on October 1, 1974 and played two games to end that year. He played just nine games the following season. The Angels selected him off waivers and he played- two seasons with the Angels but only played a significant number of games in the majors with them in 1976.

Jones was out of the majors from 1978 until he made 10 more appearances, back with the Rangers in 1981. During this time he played in Japan with the Chunichi Dragons. He’d be back down to the minors in 1982 and then jumped back and down with them from 1983 to 1986.

He continued to be part of the Rangers, coaching in their minor league system through 2008.

The Score on Bob Jones – 7.0

Bob has a really strong signature with a strong slant to it. It came out really good on these cards. The marker is really strong and it just pops off these cards. I especially like how the black marker turns out on the 1986 Topps card because black is a big part of that design.

Thanks Mr. Jones! I’m giving this return a 7.
