August was a bounce back month. It wasn’t my best month yet but it was darn close to it. I had a crazy TTM “win” streak that made up most of the month. What made it even more interesting was that it kind of coincided with Wilson Ramos’ hit streak. That made it even more fun to keep up with it.
And not only were the individual successes up, but the number of cards that came in were up. Again, not the best month, but a really good one. It certainly felt good when I let that stack pile up and then put the cards in binders at the end of the month.
The Monthly Numbers
I had a few weekends where I was out of town. Luckily, my family somehow anticipates what I like them to do and they keep the cards as they came in by day. Then I can get accurate data as to how long they took and I could keep an eye on that streak I was mentioning earlier.
There were a couple spikes in the data. The special spike was on August 5th. But other than that it was just really consistent throughout the majority of the month.
Still enjoying those 70’s cards coming in. I actually got a ’68 Topps card and now that I am looking at the data it’s not on there. I probably didn’t adjust the graph to my data set. I don’t have many 60’s doubles at all to send out so when I do get one I should have an eye on it.
The football of course has it’s early 90’s spike. I hope to soon have a basketball spike in there too. I just started sending out one or two and I supposed they will be trickling in soon. That helps me meet another goal from the start of the year – to get some other sports in returns.
Score was pretty big this month. I happened to find a bunch of ’90 Score for football that I think helped that. Plus I know some ’88 Score for baseball were in my returns. I’m really surprised that I don’t have more Upper Deck and Donruss to go with the Fleer. But I think that’s mostly because I’ve been skewing older in the baseball and that means Topps will rule the numbers.
To one of my favorite parts of the data. Where did those Seattle cards come from?! The Mariners killed it this month but there were a good amount of Seahawks in there as well (the Mariners came in at #2 for the month again). I don’t know how I didn’t get any New York cards at all. That’s usually easy to come across for me.
Here are the Top 10 by team for the month:
- Boston Red Sox – 11
- Seattle Mariners – 10
- Baltimore Orioles – 9
- California Angels – 9
- Texas Rangers – 9
- Chicago Cubs – 7
- Oakland Athletics – 7
- Philadelphia Phillies – 7
- Pittsburgh Pirates – 7
- Detroit Tigers – 6
Getting Trendy
I love the spikes. Well, I shouldn’t put it that way. I would love for those spikes to be more my consistent level. What I love is seeing improvement when I was down though.
I find it interesting that my failures are fairly consistent. I could probably even eliminate some of them with better research or less risk taking. But somehow there aren’t that many spikes in the same way there are spikes for successes.
Baseball was very high last month. But that said, the football total was in the top half of my best totals I think. Just an overall good month really hit for me.
It wasn’t the best month for total cards… it was second best. Nice!
The Overall Numbers
My total successes are now at 274 with the failures at 29. I should pass 300 by the end of September with luck. And since I looked at it last month, I’m at 905 total cards back. I don’t want to jinx anything, but I should be killing the 1000 card mark for the year, hopefully by October.
He’s Making a List
As far as favorites go (some which you still haven’t seen in posts yet), I especially liked: Joe Torre, Scott McGregor, Eric Metcalf, Will Clark and Pat Neshek. There were some successes I had that were second tries just like last month. As far as my failures go, they were really bad addresses for Marty Barrett, Adam Kennedy and Tom Brunansky. The last two were a little surprising since I had seen some successes recently and I hadn’t noticed any address changes.
Hope you guys had a great month too! Keep at it and be patient!
