Andre Robertson’s baseball journey is one of immense potential, untimely setbacks, and unyielding determination. A talented infielder known for his slick fielding and speed, Robertson had a bright future ahead of him in Major League Baseball (MLB). Andre Levett Robertson was born on October 2, 1957, in Orange, Texas. Growing up, he excelled in multiple sports, but his passion for baseball stood out. He attended the University of Texas, where he played college baseball for the Texas Longhorns. Robertson’s impressive performance as a shortstop helped lead the Longhorns to a College World Series title in 1975, showcasing his defensive skills and speed on a national stage.
The Toronto Blue Jays selected Robertson in the fourth round of the 1979 MLB Draft. However, his time with the Blue Jays organization was short-lived, as his contract was purchased by the New York Yankees in 1979.
Robertson made his MLB debut with the Yankees on September 3, 1981, during a strike-shortened season. His defensive prowess at shortstop and second base quickly caught the attention of fans and coaches. In the 1982 season, Robertson became a regular contributor to the Yankees’ infield, appearing in 44 games.
Known for his quick reflexes and range, Robertson provided stability to the Yankees’ defense. Though his offensive numbers were modest, his ability to make difficult plays look routine earned him respect from teammates and opponents alike.
On August 18, 1983, Robertson’s career took a devastating turn. He was involved in a serious car accident in Manhattan that left him with a fractured neck and other injuries. The accident not only sidelined him for the remainder of the 1983 season but also cast doubt on his future in professional baseball.
Robertson’s recovery was long and arduous, but he was determined to return to the field. After missing the some of the 1984 season, he made a comeback, though he was no longer the same player physically.
Following the accident, Robertson struggled to regain his form. He played sparingly for the Yankees in 1984 and 1985, appearing in a combined 102 games over the two seasons. Despite his diminished playing time, Robertson remained a valued presence in the clubhouse, admired for his resilience and positive attitude.
After being traded by the Yankees in 1986 to the Atlanta Braves, Robertson played briefly in the minor leagues before retiring from professional baseball.
Following his baseball career, Robertson transitioned into a quieter life away from the spotlight. He remained connected to the sport, participating in youth baseball programs and sharing his experiences with young athletes. Robertson’s story of overcoming adversity served as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of perseverance in the face of setbacks.
He also focused on family life, finding fulfillment in spending time with loved ones and giving back to his community.

He did a really great job on these cards and they gave him a great place to sign. I especially love ho whe puts his number in one of his loops.
