The Story of the Autograph

Alejandro Pena is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1981 to 1996 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves (twice), Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox, and Florida Marlins.

Pena is a native of the Dominican Republic. The Dodgers signed him as an amateur free agent in September of 1978. He made his debut with them three years later on September 14, 1981. His first two seasons he worked in relief, but for 1983 and 1984 he worked primarily as a starter. He won 12 games each of those seasons and even led the league in ERA in 1984 at .248. A shoulder injury would stop him in 1985 and from then on he would work primarily as a reliever.

He pitched with great success with the Dodgers and Braves. He won two World Series with the Dodgers. The first was in 1981 when he first made it into the league to be on the postseason roster, but didn’t appear in the Series. He was however instrumental on the 1988 team that won the Series. With Atlanta he appeared in two more World Series and won another in 1995.

He currently works for the Dodgers in their Dominican Summer League club.

Alejandro has a lot of great cards to get signed as you can see below.  I don’t think I’ve ever really experienced him putting bad ink on my cards or seen it on anyone else’s. Considering he charges a small fee, that’s important. I tried to get a good mix of teams. I think of him as a Dodger, but I had to squeeze some Mets cards of him as well.

Thanks Mr. Pena! I’m giving this return a 7.
