The Story of the Autograph
Al Secord is a former left wing in the NHL. He played from 1978 to 1990 with the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks (twice), Toronto Maple Leafs, and Philadelphia Flyers.
Secord was born and raised in Ontario. He was drafted sixteenth overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1978 NHL Draft. He a part of the roster immediately after being drafted. But he only spent a season and a half with Boston before they moved him to the Blackhawks for Mike O’Connell.
He had a long run in Chicago and started out with two of the best seasons of his career. He put up 75 and 86 points in 1981-’82 and 1982-’83 respectively. He would match that a few years later in 1985-’86 with a 76 point season. He was the only player in NHL history to record 40 goals and 300 penalty minutes in a single season.
He would eventually be dealt to Toronto with Ed Olczyk for Rick Vaive, Steve Thomas, and Bob McGill. After his time with the Leafs he moved around a bit more and finally returned to Chicago before retiring.
After his playing days were over he worked as a pilot with American Airlines. He only just retired in 2023 as a Captain.
The Score on Al Secord – 6.5
Al does a great job on this card. I think what I like is that he found the best place to sign, and write other stuff, and then he did it all really neatly. He found a bunch of space on this one and filled it up with a message and personalization too.
Thanks Mr. Secord! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
