The Story of the Autograph

Frank LaCorte is a former right-handed reliever in the major leagues. He played from 1975 through 1984 with the Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros and the California Angels.

LaCorte was born in San Jose, California and grew up in Gilroy, California. He went to Gilroy High School and then to Gavilan College in Gilroy as well. The Braves signed him as an amateur free agent in 1972. He made his major league debut just three seasons later on September 8, 1975. In those seasons with the Braves they tried to establish him as a starter. Unfortunately that included a 3-12 record and 4.70 ERA in 1976. But he starting relieving a bit more when he found playing time.

The Braves traded him to the Astros and he found a lot more success in a purely relief role. His best year was probably 1980 when he put up an 8-5 record with 11 saves and a 2.82 ERA in 55 appearances with 83 total innings. That was by far the best year of his career ERA wise.

He went to the Angels and played in the majors with them for one season before calling it a career and moving back to Gilroy.

The Score on Frank LaCorte – 6.0

Frank definitely has one of those “scratchy” style autographs. It has quite the angle to it, both in how it goes across the cards and how much of an angle are on all the letters if you put it on a straight line. His first “F” is pretty amazing though. I think he is finishing his first name with a line but it sure makes it look like he crosses his “F” twice.

Thanks Mr. LaCorte! I’m giving this return a 6.
