The Story of the Autograph

Steve Farr is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1984 through 1994 with the Cleveland Indians (twice), Kansas City Royals, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox.

Farr was born and raised in Maryland. After graduating from DeMatha he attended the College of Southern Maryland and then American University in Washington, DC. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in December of 1976 as an amateur free agent. He spent the next six and a half years in the Pirates minor league system before being traded in June of 1983 to the Indians.

He made his major league debut with the Indians the next season on May 1, 1984. His first major leagues season he worked as both a starter and a reliever. Unfortunately he put up a 3-11 record with a 4.58 ERA. The Indians would release him the next year before the start of the season.

But just a couple months later, Farr was signed by the Royals. That was a pretty good year to be a Royal as they went on to win the World Series against the Cardinals. Farr went 2-1 with a 3.11 ERA in 16 games with three starts that season. He continued with the Royals and closed games for a few seasons in the late 80’s. Then he moved on to the Yankees and became their closer. He put up a 2-2 record with a 1.56 ERA and 30 saves in 1992 for New York for probably the best overall season of his career.

After the Yankees he went back to Cleveland in 1994. He was traded mid-year to the Red Sox and finished his career out that season with them.

The Score on Steve Farr – 5.5

Steve has a nice signature and I think I have a return from a while ago that I would rate better than this one. Either something is wrong with the marker, like it’s running out of ink, or maybe it’s more of a regular marker and not a Sharpie. Either way it didn’t make for a strong signature. I love the style of “F” that he uses and he makes his signature a really good size so I think a stronger marker would look great with these.

Thanks Mr. Farr! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
