The Story of the Autograph
Luis Pujols is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played from 1977 to 1985 with the Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, and Texas Rangers.
Pujols is from the Dominican Republic and was signed by the Astros when he was seventeen in 1973. He first appeared as a September call-up on September 22, 1977. He spent the first few years of his major league career as a backup or platoon player and was also back and forth to the minors. 1980 was his first full season in the majors.
He was good defensively, but offense was definitely not his strong suit. His career average was .193. Of course with that, he wouldn’t have high career numbers in most other categories as well. Some of that is because if you don’t get the chances you can’t get the totals. But you have to get hits with the chances you are given.
He was traded to the Royals in 1984 and only appeared in only four games with them. He moved on to the Rangers for the 1985 season. But a pulled arm muscle and a fractured shoulder derailed his chances. He tried again the following spring but would never make it out of the minors again.
He later coached and managed in the minors and majors.
The Score on Luis Pujols – 5.5
Luis has a pretty small signature. I guess I never really remembered the Astros gear being so dark. I think the only image I have burned in my brain from them back then are the Tequila Sunrise jerseys. The dark blue jerseys and warm-up gear don’t do much off show off a signature.
Thanks Mr. Pujols! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
