The Story of the Autograph
Ryan Sweeney is a former major league baseball player who played from 2006 through 2014. During his career he played in the outfield for the White Sox, Athletics, Red Sox and Cubs.
Sweeney was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, IA. While he had planned to play his college ball at San Diego State university, that changed with the 2003 MLB Draft. The White Sox used their second round pick to select him and he spent the next few years in their minor league system. He made his major league debut as a September call-up on September 1, 2006.
By the beginning of 2007 he was ranked as the White Sox number one prospect by Baseball America, but he only played 15 games that year. Before the 2008 season the White Sox traded him to the Athletics along with Gio Gonzalez and another player for Nick Swisher. He would get called up pretty quickly and played in 115 games with the big ball club that year. He would be traded again to the the Red Sox along with Andrew Bailey before the 2012 season and then sign with the Cubs in April of 2013 after being left off the Red Sox major league roster.
Sweeney’s best season was probably 2009 in Oakland. He got the most playing time that year with 134 games and the only time he got more than 500 at bats in a season (he only had one other year with more than 400). He hit .293 with six homers, 53 RBI and six stolen bases.

I like Ryan’s signature but I wish I had some better cards for him to sign. These are a bit busy in the background and I think a card that might show off his autograph would be a bit better. Something interesting I see is that on the Bowman Heritage card his last name almost looks like it starts with a “G”. I do like the symmetry (kind of) with both names having a the “y” in them.
