The Story of the Autograph

Bob Tewksbury is a former right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball. His career lasted 13 years from 1986 through 1998. During that time he played with the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, and Minnesota Twins.

Tewksbury was born and raised in New Hampshire and then went on to play college baseball with Rutgers and Saint Leo University. The Yankees discovered him and drafted him in the 19th round of the 1981 MLB Draft. He made his debut for them on April 11, 1986. After a season and a half of a not too shabby rookie season and then a poor start to his second season, the Yankees traded him to the Cubs. He didn’t get too much a shot during his time with them and moved on to St. Louis where he would spend most of his career.

He put up a 67-46 record with the Cardinals along with a 3.48 ERA in his six years there. In 1992 he went 16-5 with a 2.16 ERA and made his only All-Star Game roster. He’s known for his control and for having one of the best-ever ratios of walks per innings pitched.

These days Bob works as a sports psychology coach and helps with the mental side of the game. He even has worked as a professor in the field. I actually heard Bob on a Freakonomics podcast series they did about sports.

The Score on Bob Tewksbury – 6.5

Bob has a great big signature. The 1994 Upper Deck card really shows him filling up some space on the landscape-oriented card. I actually sent these a bit ago and I feel like I’ve almost sent another out more recently although it might be something in my hopper to send out still.

Thanks Mr. Tewksbury! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
