The Story of the Autograph

CC Sabathia is a left-handed starting pitcher who currently plays for the New York Yankees. He broke into the league in 2001 and also spent time with the Indians and Brewers.

Sabathia was born and raised in California and in high school he also played basketball and football. While he was the top high school baseball prospect in Northern California during his senior year, he was also an all-conference tight end with scholarship offers to play at UCLA and signed a letter of intent to play for Hawai’i. He was drafted in 1998 with the 20th overall pick by the Indians and three years later he made his major league debut on April 8, 2001.

He was great that rookie season with a 17-5 record, 4.39 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 33 starts and 180 innings. He probably could have been rookie of the year if not for Ichiro coming into the league that year too. He’s been an All-Star six times (2003-4, 2007, 2010-12), a World Series Champion with the Yankees in 2009 (also getting the ALCS MVP that year), and he won the AL Cy Young in 2007.

He’s had some really great years during is career: eight years with 15+ wins, six with 17+ wins, four years with 19+ wins, and one 21 win year. He’s posted three years with 200+ strikeouts and one of those was with 251. And even though he won the Cy in 2007 in his last full year with the Indians, he’s been in the top 5 in the Cy voting in four other years.

While he had a good year in 2017, he does seem to be slowing down a bit. But he’s still holding it down in the Bronx for now.

The Score on CC Sabathia – 5.5

This is one return that I never expected to get back. I think I’ve sent to CC before without any luck so it was a pleasant surprise to see this in the mailbox. While not a Yankee fan I’ve seen CC on the old Desus & Mero show and liked him on there. CC has a solid signature. You can definitely see the “CC” and get the hang of an “S” there too.

Thanks Mr. Sabathia! I’m giving this one a 5.5.
