The Story of the Autograph

Frank White spent 18 years in the majors and all of them were with the Kansas City Royals. He was primarily a second baseman during his time in baseball. He was an All-star, Gold Glover, Silver Slugger, ALCS MVP and World Series Champion.

White was born and raised in Mississippi and went to Longview Community College in Missouri. He was signed by the Royals in 1970 as an amateur free agent and worked his way through the farm system to debut on June 12, 1973. He would go on to appear in 1,914 games with George Brett and set a record until it was eclipsed by Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker.

White had some great season and great moments in Kansas City. He was an All-Star five times (1978-9, 1981-2, 1986). He won the Golden Glove as a second baseman eight times (1977-82, 1986-7) and in 1977 that included a 62 game errorless games streak. He also won the Silver Slugger award in 1986. 1986 might have been his best season statistically when he played in 151 games, hit .272 (his career high was .298 in 1982), with 22 home runs (matching a career high) and 84 RBI (a career high).

He appeared in the postseason several times for the Royals. In 1980 he was named the MVP of the ALCS against the Yankees to help the Royals to their first World Series appearance. They wouldn’t win that year but they did against the Cardinals in 1985.

After retiring he’s been a coach, manager, and broadcaster. He’s also been a politician in Mississippi.

I’m so happy to finally get something back successfully from Frank. I’ve always gotten things returned before and I was taking one last try at it. This time I sent it to the team he coaches for. His autograph is pretty simple and you can definitely tell it’s his. He signed with a pretty good marker and it came out pretty well on these cards.

Thanks Mr. White! I’m giving these a 5.0.
