The Story of the Autograph

Wayne Gross played at third base, and some at first base, over his 11 year MLB career for the Oakland Athletics (in two different stints) and Baltimore Orioles. He was drafted by the Athletics in the 9th round of the 1973 draft and made his debut for them in August of the 1976 season.

In his first full year of playing (1977), Gross played in 146 games hitting .233 with 22 homers and 63 RBI. He was good enough to make the All-Star game in that rookie year, albeit as an injury replacement for Vida Blue. But, it’s still counts as his one and only appearance in the All-Star game. That rookie year turned out to be one of the better years he would have in the majors.

In 1984, Gross was traded to the Orioles for Tim Stoddard. He would match his career high 22 homers in his first year with Baltimore, but he only hit .224 in the two years he was with the Birds. They released him after the 1985 season and the Athletics picked him up for his final season in 1986.

In 1994 he appeared in the movie Angels in the Outfield, along with Carney Lansford, as a relief pitcher for the Chicago White Sox.

Pretty standard fare here. It’s a standard signature and while a little small, it came out well on these cards. The ’84 Fleer is a tiny bit busy for it but it works none-the-less.
