The Story of the Autograph
Mickey Stanley played in the majors from 1964 through 1978 and spent his entire career in Detroit with the Tigers. He spend the majority of his time playing as a centerfielder, but he also played shortstop and some other infield positions more toward the end of his career. He’s a Gold Glove and World Series winner.
Stanley was born-and-raised in Grand Rapids, MI. The Tigers didn’t draft him but signed him as a free agent before the 1961 season. He made his major league debut on September 13, 1964 in centerfield. From 1966 through 1974 he would mostly play center and won Gold Gloves at the position in 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1973. However, he’s also famous for playing shortstop, specifically in the 1968 season.
When the Tigers clinched the AL Pennant, the manager moved Stanley to shortstop for the last nine games of the season. Stanley was a better hitter than the current shortstop and Mayo Smith (the manager) wanted to get Stanley’s bat into the lineup and allow for some power hitters to be in the outfield. Before this Stanley had only played eight total innings at the position. He went on to start every game of the World Series at short and the regular shortstop, Ray Oyler, would come on as a defensive replacement at which time Stanley would move to center to do the same. The Tigers won the Series over the Cardinals that year.
After retiring, Stanly played with two different professional softball teams: the Detroit Ceasars and the Detroit Auto Kings.

I was really hoping to get these back. I actually didn’t think to send tem until I pulled that 1976 card out of a repack from Rite Aid and then I found I had some other doubles of his. Mickey has a pretty solid signature and these cards are pretty good for having a place to sign. The 1970 has a little bit of a bad spot on end of his last name, but overall these are pretty solid.
