The Story of the Autograph
Steve Renko pitched for the Expos, Cubs, White Sox, Athletics, Red Sox, Angels, and Royals during his career. He was a right-handed pitcher and pitched from 1969 trough 1983.
Steve was born and raised in Kansas and went to college at the University of Kansas where he played baseball as well as basketball and football. In 1965 he was drafted by the New York Mets in the 24th round of the draft. Four years later the Mets traded him with four other players to the Expos for Donn Clendenon (a deal that would be key to the Mets winning the World Series that year. Steve was with the Expos until 1976 wen he was traded to the Cubs. He spent 8 seasons with the Expos which is by far the most he spent with any other team.
In 1982 he went 11-6 and helped the Angels to thhe AL West Division title. He was also a 15-game winner in 1971 and 1973 (with the Expos). 1973 might have been his best year with a 15-11 record, a 2.81 ERA and 164 strikeouts.
The Score on Steve Renko – 7.5
Steve has a solid autograph without a whole lot of flair. But what I’ giving Steve a lot of credit for is the size of the autograph he puts on these cards. He can really fill them up. He used a solid marker and given the size it’s almost surprising that there aren’t any smudges.
Thanks Mr. Renko! I’m giving these a 7.5.
