The Story of the Autograph
Jeff Banister is currently the manager of the Texas Rangers. He played in the majors for the Pirates in 1991, coached in the minors for several years, then coached in the majors with the Pirates from 2011-2014. He’s managed the Rangers since 2015 and has a winning record into his fourth season with them.
Jeff was born and raised in Oklahoma and he definitely has had some difficult things happen in his life and in baseball. In high school he developed bone cancer and he almost had his leg amputated. He went on to play for Lee College and was in a home plate collision that broke three vertebrae in his neck leaving him paralyzed for 10 days. Still he came back and played and was named a Junior College All-American and got a scholarship to Houston. The Pirates drafted him in 1986.
After a few years in the minors he appeared in a game on July 23, 1991. He got one plate appearance and got a hit. That was the one and only plate appearance and game he would have in the majors. After two more years in baseball he would retired and go on to coach and manage in the minors.
In 2015 Banister was name the AL Manager of the Year.
The Score on Jeff Banister- 4.5
Jeff has a pretty crazy signature. With the thin marker, a little bit a of weak marker and the business of the card, this one didn’t come out as good as it could have. I think I’ll have to find him a bit of a better card to sign for it to come out better.
Thanks Mr. Banister! I’m giving this one a 4.5.
