The Story of the Autograph
Ivan Nova has been a major league starting pitcher since coming into the league in 2010. He started out with the Yankees and is currently with the Pirates.
Nova grew up in the Dominican Republic. He was a Yankee fan growing up but was not really scouted until he had a growth spurt when he was 15. He went to the Red Sox academy but wouldn’t sign with them when they offered because he was such a Yankee fan. Later on the Yankees gave him a tryout at their academy and they signed him in 2004.
He made his Yankee debut in May of 2010. He made some good starts and was in the rotation by 2011. He went 16-4 with a 3.70 ERA in 27 starts. He followed that up with 12-8 and 9-6 seasons. After that he had a few disappointing years in New York.
The Yankees traded Nova to the Pirates in August of 2016. He’s had some OK seasons as a Pirate but nothing like those first few years. But he’s still going and was the Pirates Opening Day starter this year. He’s currently 7-7 with a 4.26 ERA as I write this.

Ivan has the classic scribbly signature. I think it’s a solid autograph but it could be a little bigger. He used a great marker though. I really don’t know that I sent this one expecting to get it back. Sometimes you send things out not knowing if a guy will sign and this was one of those chances.
