The Story of the Autograph
Jose De Leon is a Puerto Rican pitcher in major league baseball and currently plays for the Tampa Bay Rays. He played in college at Southern University and was drafted in 2013 by the Dodgers in the 24th round that year. He spent a few years in the minor before making his debut with the Dodgers in September of 2016. The Dodgers traded him early last year for Logan Forsythe.
De Leon had some great stats in the minors for the Dodgers, especially related to strikeouts. After some time in the Arizona League he was sent to Ogden for the 2014 season. In Ogden he pitched 54.1 innings and had 77 strikeouts. He was promoted to the Great Lakes Loons and had 14 strikeouts in his second start. In four starts there he ad 22.2 innings and 42 strikeouts. In 2015 he went to Rancho Cucamonga and in seven starts he went 4-1 with a 1.67 ERA. He dipped a little bit in a move to Tulsa. After Spring Training in 2016 he was sent to Oklahoma City and put up a 7-1 record with a 2.61 ERA in 16 starts. He struck out 111 and only had 20 walks.
He was called up that September and had nine strikeouts and no walked in his debut. In four starts he went 2-0 but also had a 6.35 ERA. He was traded to Tampa Bay in January of 2017 and after some discomfort in his arm he started the season on the DL. He was called up by the Rays in May because of an extra inning game depleting the pitching staff and sent right back down. He hit the DL again in June and again in August. This year he was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in March and had Tommy John Surgery to end his 2018 season.
The Score on Jose De Leon – 6.0
I like Jose a lot because he’s made a big point to show that he’s getting back to his fans. He posts on Twitter when he’s responding to mail and everything like that. It just makes me feel good to see guys who take their fan mail seriously. Jose as quite the scratchy signature. I like the silver because it’s interesting, but these cards don’t really pull it off that well. Still, it worked on the cards pretty well which silver markers don’t always do.
Thanks Mr. De Leon! I’m giving this return a 6.
