The Story of the Autograph

Ray Corbin is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1971 to 1975 and spent his entire career in the majors with the Minnesota Twins.

Corbin is a native of Florida. He went to Florida Gateway College and North Florida Community College before signing with the Twins as an amateur free agent in 1967. After a few years in the minors he made his major league debut on April 6, 1971.

In played mostly as a reliever in his career but did start about a third of the games he appeared in. In his first season he played in a career high 52 games with 11 starts. He went 8-11 with a 4.10 ERA. His second and third years were probably some of his best when he won eight games each of those years but had an ERA of 3.03 ERA or lower. He had winning seasons in 1973 and 1974.

He was released by the Twins early in the 1976 season. Overall he was 36-38 with a 3.84 ERA in 181 games with 63 starts.

Ray used a thin marker on this one which goes well with the size of his signature. I think the problem is that the marker seems to be on the dry side and it didn’t come out really strong. Sometimes that is a problem on busy images with the thin markers in general. That’s kind of how it came out on the 1975 Topps card.

Thanks Mr. Corbin! I’m giving this return a 5.
