The Story of the Autograph
Mike Simms is a former outfielder and first baseman in the major leagues. He played in nine seasons between 1990 and 1999. During that time he played for the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.
Simms was born and raised in California. He was drafted out of high school by the Astros in the sixth roung of the 1985 MLB Draft. He spent several years in the minors before making his debut on September 5, 1990. He spent most of his career with the Astros, though even after he made it to the big leagues he was up and down from there. While in Houston he never appeared in more than 50 games.
In 1993 he was a free agent and tried to make it with the Padres and Pirates but didn’t get back to the bigs with them. He return to Houston in 1994 and got some more playing time in the majors. In 1996 he moved on to the Rangers and got his best shot at playing time with 86 games in 1998. It was most definitely his best season as he hit .296 with 16 homers and 46 RBI. Despite that, the next year would be his last in the majors.

Mike has almost two styles of signature in one. It looks like his first name is mostly vertical and then his last name is mostly horizontally oriented. I love the “S” with the sort of dots for the ends of his last name. I think my favorite of this bunch of cards is the 1992 Upper Deck card as the signature came out the most clear on that one.
